Adventure, intrigue and humor

The Essence

Disillusioned by divorce, reporter Sophia Smith Dubonnet gets her chance at a big story – interviewing a reclusive dictator in a third world county. What she finds challenges her perceptions as she becomes enamored with the General and his ideas, struggling to remain aloof despite his charisma. But before she can enjoy a brief romance, she’s forced to make a decision at gunpoint: does she side with what she’d previously believed to be right, or take a chance on where her heart might lead her?
With believable characters, lots of action, a bit of humor and romance, this book is a great weekend escape, airplane or beach read.

Review: "It keeps you in suspense with unexpected twists.  I highly recommend it."  (Apple iBookstore)
Humor action novel

Unexpected Impact

After selling her sports car for a hybrid and choosing her career over a long-distance relationship, Sophia’s life unravels. She’s laid off from the job she loves, then finds her sister is getting married. To complicate matters, her sister is counting on Sophia to help win over her prospect in-laws.
Sophia manages to land what appears to be a glitzy public relations assignment that turns out to have unexpected challenges. A mercurial CEO and difficult vice presidents complicate her assignment.
And danger lurks when she gets too close to the truth behind the profits.
Fast reading cozy mystery with
with action, humor, and a touch of romance.
This is the second book in the Scoops and Schemes Series, but worth reading on it’s own.

"The Essence is a great read! I purchased this book because I read a good amount of political nonfiction and historical fiction and was interested in the reclusive dictator mentioned in the book's extended description. The book is a unique combination of genres that kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. I found the ending to be both refreshing and pleasantly surprising. In addition, I really enjoyed how the two main characters, Sophia and the General, develop as the story progresses. They are dynamic characters with an interesting blend of positive and negative qualities that make them memorable and relatable. I'd definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more by the author."  (Smashwords reader review)
